RHIC Community Programs and Resources

Placemaking, Activities, Information, and More!

RHIC strives to serve our whole community, working in partnership with residents, neighborhood groups, providers, and as a liaison with government agencies, foundations, advocates, and nonprofit organizations to bring about major social and physical transformations in the community for the past four decades. RHIC embraces the plurality of diversity in Reservoir Hill and Baltimore as a whole and strives for community improvement through revitalization and resident support.

RHIC addresses the challenges of community capacity and organizing through a collaborative community impact effort and offers programing with emphasis on placemaking, greenspaces, and housing stability support. RHIC is a HUD-certified Housing Counseling agency and a proud member of Maryland Nonprofits, the National Council on Nonprofits, and the Community Development Network.

RHIC hosts monthly Community Resource Meetings on the fourth Tuesdays at 6:30 pm in Beth-Am Synagogue's meeting hall.  During the pandemic these meetings are held virtually via zoom and live-streamed on social media. Register in advance for the zoom link to enter the meeting or watch it on our FaceBook page.  Videos of past meetings are also available on social media.

We have regular volunteer opportunities for greening with our Tree Pit Crew and neighborhood clean-ups on quarterly Dumpster Days with the Cleanup-Green Up Team.   RHIC hosts the new community greenspace at Linden and Whitelock and currently maintains nine City-owned adopt-a-lots, including two community gardens.  Sign up to volunteer!

Each year RHIC hosts community events with various partners and organizations.  Sign up for updates on activities like summer movie nights, National Night Out, Harvest Fest, Party at the Polls, and more.

Placemaking

Placemaking is defined as a multi-facted approach to place that centers on the participation of those who live, work, and use the space.

Housing Security & Development

RHIC’s Neighborhood Development Program seeks to improve the range of housing options available in Reservoir Hill, stimulate investment, improve amenities, and enhance development opportunities through planning, attracting resources to the community, and organizing community opinion around development strategies.

Greening & Beautification

RHIC has a long list of greening work within the neighborhood. This work has been recognized and celebrated not only by residents but the front page of the Baltimore Sun, covered by MIT’s Community Innovators Lab, Channel 11 News, WJZ Channel 13, WYPR 88.1 FM, Baltimore City Paper, Urbanite, and more.

Community Wellness

RHIC is dedicated to community wellness from public safety to accessible excellent public school educational environments.   We have been involved with  green and sustainable food projects, redesign of schools and re-imaginings of busy traffic corridors. We invite you to join us in this work.
